Auckland
Dag allemaal,
De eerste week Auckland zit erop.
Ik heb veel vragen gekregen over het weer hier gedurende de laatste dagen. Wel, 's nachts koelt het goed af, wat ideaal is om te slapen. Overdag hadden we meestal stralend weer, maar met een fris windje. Eenmaal uit de wind en in de zon was het aangenaam vertoeven - zo'n 16 graden gemiddeld. Maar een jas en trui is aangeraden.
Dit was het weer dus tot en met vrijdag. Maar vanaf zaterdag wanneer iedereen vrijaf heeft, is er een lage drukgebied voorbijgefietst(zoals Eddy De Mei zou zeggen) en heeft het geregend comme une vach qui pisse int Frans.
Mijn gastgezin is super. Zo'n logement is de beste manier om de kiwi-levensstijl te leren. Het feit dat mijn familie hier Maori is, maakt het nog beter. Ik sta rond 6.50 op om rond 7.25 de bus te nemen. 40 minuten later ben ik in Auckland centrum en 10 minuten later op school. De lessen beginnen rond 9.00. Om 12.15 hebben we middagpauze tot 13.30 en daarna nog 2u les. Niet te zwaar dus. Vrijdagnamiddag hebben we vrijaf.
Ik heb mijn eerste luister- and schrijftest gehad op woensdag en de resultaten waren zeer goed. De leraar had maar 1 opmerking en dat was dat ik minder informeel moet schrijven. Daar kan ik inkomen, maar de leraars geven les op een zeer losse manier, dus dacht ik niet dat formeel Engles vereist was. Dat weten we dan ook weer voor de volgende keer.
Woensdagavond was het pubnight zoals ik al eerder vermeld heb. Dan gaan de studenten samen met de leraars op cafe. Het was zeer plezant. Heb mij goed geamuseerd en iedereen eigenlijk. Niet moeilijk als een liter bier op die avond slechts 2.5 euro kost.
Vrijdag heb ik mijn eerste uitstap gedaan. Ik heb een boottocht gemaakt langs de kust van Auckland. Allemaal residentiele wijken, maar zeer mooi.
De regen op zaterdag heeft mijn twee Duitse vrienden en mezelf niet tegengehouden. Gewapend met een paraplu hebben we Auckland verkend. We hebben ook twee musea bezocht om onze kennis over de Maori een beetje uit te diepen.
Zondag heb ik niet veel gedaan. Uitgeslapen en naar de film gegaan in de namiddag.
Internet bij mijn gastgezin is zeer traag wat het onmogelijk maakt de foto's op te laden. Dus voorloping nog geen afbeeldingen over mijn eerste week.

Dear all,
My first week Auckland is over.
A lot of people asked me about the weather here in Auckland. Well, we've had some beautiful weather during the first days, but a jacket or sweater is still recommended due to the cold wind. Temperatures come near 16 degrees out of the wind and at night it cools down a lot.
This was the weather until Friday, but as of Saturday, when everybody is off work, a low pressure came along and threw gallons of water in our faces.
My homestay family is great. The fact I am staying with them is an extraordinary opportunity to learn their way of life. The fact that they are also Maori makes it even better.
I usually get up at 6.50 to catch the bus around 7.20. 40 minutes later I am in the center of Auckland, which is a 10 minutes walk from school.
Class starts at 9.00. We have lunch at 12.15 and at 13.30 we start our last two hours of school. On Fridays we finish at 11.00 which is a great way to start the weekend.
On Wednesday I had my first writing and listening test. I did great and the only comment I got, was that I write too informally. Can you believe that? ;-P
I can. It's just that the teachers are so informal, so it never occured to me that I should write formal English. Now I know that for the next test and the professional English learned at Euroclear will come in handy.
We also had pubnight on Wednesday which was great. Teachers and students getting acquainted for only 2.5euro per pitcher of beer.
On Friday, I turned tourist for the first time and went on a cruise to Half Moon Bay. The ferry goes via the coastline which is very beautful actually.
Armed with an umbrella, my two German friends and I went exploring the city of Auckland. We also visited two musea to improve our knowledge about the Maori culture.
Soaked to the bones, we went to a party at the student house in the evening.
On Sunday I did not do much. Slept late and went to the movies. Relax, basically.
No pictures for the moment, as internet is very slow at my hostfamily not enabling me to upload them.
